I hope there never comes a time when I need to write a book proposal. I went through the process several years ago and ended up abandoning the project I was working on.

I would suggest you allocate several days, if not a week or two, to write a book proposal. It is indeed an arduous process. And please check and recheck your proposal before submitting it.
